Case Study: A Heritage Building Transformed - The Old Sorting Office in Greenwich

The Brief

Pronorm Kitchen Design was approached by a leading property developer to help with the transformation of a historic Royal Mail post office in Greenwich into high-end residential flats. The developer required ten cohesive kitchens that would appeal to a diverse range of prospective tenants and buyers. Each kitchen was unique and required a bespoke design that celebrated the specific space and location within the building. The desired neutral aesthetic called for modern, streamlined designs that would enhance the appeal of the new flats and reflect the vibrant Greenwich location.

The Challenge

We greatly enjoy partnering with developers, interior designers, and architects, bringing expertise and creativity to projects of varying sizes and scopes. This large-scale project presented unique challenges due to the architectural constraints of the building and the construction schedule, which consisted of renovation work on the existing building and the construction of a new section.

The project spanned a three-year period from concept to completion, with delays in the overall construction requiring flexibility and proactive management on the part of the Pronorm Kitchen Design team. We conducted multiple site surveys throughout the project, managing the fitting schedule around ongoing building work. Time management and patience were essential throughout this long-term project, as was close collaboration with the site project manager and building team to ensure a smooth installation process.

The Collections

For this project, we recommended the X-line range in MP Artic White in an ultra matt satin finish with stainless-steel handle rails - a selection that provides a contemporary, neutral look. Complementing the cabinets, Cimstone Arcadia quartz worktops were chosen for their sleek durability. To add a dynamic touch to the kitchens, blue glass splashbacks were incorporated, introducing a striking pop of colour. Each kitchen was equipped with a suite of Bosch appliances.

The End Result

The outcome is a series of ten beautifully designed kitchens that embody both style and practicality, adding value to the development and enhancing the living experience for future residents. It was a pleasure to help breathe new life into a building in need to modernisation, helping to conserve the heritage architecture for generations to come. By balancing contemporary design with durable functionality, we have delivered standout kitchens that will serve as a key selling point for this vibrant new Greenwich development.
